Skills Development Program
-6 & 7 year olds

Students have fun while training in balance, agility, reaction, and movement drills, following Sport Canada's Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD) model. Hand-eye and foot-eye co-ordination is introduced with basic karate technique. We encourage our students to engage in other sports and physical activities to start down the road to physical literacy. Classes are taught by a black belt, NCCP-certified instructor, with a low student/teacher ratio.

The Junior & Adult Programs

Karate students are trained in an atmosphere of mutual respect and responsibility. Moving up through the coloured belt levels involves learning new techniques and katas, and facing new challenges. Strength training, core stability, range of motion, energy systems development, and overall co-ordination are addressed throughout training.

Shotokan-style karate is the basis for belt promotion. Students/athletes also have drills and training that teach aspects of Tae Kwon-Do, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Hapkido, Kali, and Boxing. Students interested in Bojutsu (art of long staff) and Kali (short stick) can study these arts after reaching blue belt.

Each student is encouraged to proceed at his/her own pace. The most important elements in advancing in rank are frequency of training (hours per week/month) and commitment (training regularly throughout the year). Most students who reach advanced rank train at least twice a week, 10 to 12 months of the year.

Students can earn the rank of Shodan (first level black belt) after meeting requirements that include minimum hours of training and technical skill sets. Certification is available through the International Karate Association of Canada.
